If talking to yourself is an effective methodology within CBT then that completely eliminates the need to have an imaginary friend. Since changing the way you think is the whole raison d etre of CBT anyway then self assessment is not only desirable but necessary. And it can be achieved without invoking God especially if you do not actually believe in him in the first place Since the only person you do have to believe in is yourself. No one else
