Sam Harris wrote:The Myth of "Moderation" in Religion

What I notice about this is the complete absence of examples. I kept waiting for them to appear and they just don't. Harris's whole analysis of moderates floats free of what and how any particular moderates believe. I guess he doesn't want to fall prey to generalising from a couple of examples in the text, so...he generalises from none. I don't think this is for skeptics of Harris's work, I think it's for those who already take him as authoritative or on faith.

There are two examples that's readily available.
1. Creationists fundamentalist who believe that genesis is literal vs moderate who believes that genesis is only allegorical.
2. Fundamentalist who interprets the violent passages in religious texts in a straightforward manner vs moderates who choose to ignore the violent passages because our modern society don't consider that politically correct.

Those are general positions or oppositions, not what I'm talking about. This is why I mention "particular moderates".
