Cave burial, ritualized death, abstract thinking in naledi! This species is a bugger to work into any ancestral relationship. Small enough - particularly in brain size - to be like other species from 1-2 million years ago - did it evolve its smaller size like H. floresiensis, or was it from a lineage of smaller hominids we've yet to find?
