I had a girlfriend for a year or two who cheated on me. I was pissed off and hurt, we had an argument. I didn't attack her. I didn't want to hit her. I might have told her to fuck off and leave me alone, I forget. Then I walked away and moved on with my life.

I don't think resorting to violence is normal or purely biologically driven.
