Well they're not really. The background of the circle shape is the same colour, and you can see that clearly enough if you are close, but the average colour in the area of each circle is different depending on which stripes go over it. This is no different to seeing colours made up of RGB pixels.

I think this one is much more impressive - All of the lines right across the image have the same curvature:
