Of course, claiming that some behaviour or feeling is an evolved predisposition is not to claim that it’s rational. Are you saying that if a person has an evolved predisposition to find satisfaction in looking after some other people’s wellbeing, as well as (or, occasionally, instead of) their own, then this satisfaction is irrational?

I think you're badly misreading the words of your interlocutor. I'm guessing wisedupearly's comments about community match up very well with your own ideas.

In any event, besides being a brute fact, that is, a fact about how the living universe works, explaining what we do as a process of advancing our genome is a way of saying there isn't a philosophical exposition of why we do what we do. How many times can you repeat that before it gets boring for you?

I mean, you can only do so much to cut down the underbrush of philosophical explanations of things, and the meta-level is that you're suggesting there's a point to cutting down that underbrush besides pointing out that it's circular.

You can either help yourself or hurt yourself. Your choice.
