That said, the bit about Jews and mawkishness (0:17) is an actual quote from Book V of his Die fröhliche Wissenschaft, and it is one of numerous others that have been seized upon to portray him as an anti-Semite. It's what you get when you resolutely insist on expressing a philosophy almost exclusively on the wings of metaphor, aphorism and poetry; coherence flies out of the window, which makes it all the easier for readers to select whatever fits their prejudice and ignore or reinterpret what doesn't. Christians had almost 1700 years practice of doing exactly that since the First Council of Nicaea, so there is an ancient and strong tradition of it.
