In Munich even the newspaper kiosks on the Marienplatz are closed on Sundays. When a holiday like the 6th Jan, the 15th August, the 1st November falls on a Saturday, the shops are closed on that day too; and I would often forget and realise on Saturday morning that we had nothing to eat for the weekend. There was a shop open at the railway station, but mainly with packets and tins and a very little fruit; for proper food I'd have to get the train out to the airport, go to the supermarket there and bring it all on the train back home. But I would be honouring the sabbath all the way there and all the way back.
I do see that it was my fault. If everyone knows about it, you can plan, and it's your own fault if you don't.
