These kind of things happen when a minority community is not properly integrated, accepted or otherwise given equal opportunities in mainstream society. Gay pride only exists because homophobia exists, for example. If black women didn't experience discrimination based on race and gender, they wouldn't have to come up with a separate festival to give people a space to show their talents. But yes, the better long term solution should be to fight for more representation of different groups at mainstream events. But strangely, the types of people who say, "International Women's Day? When's International Men's Day?" amongst other catchphrases don't tend to like that either.
