What’s interesting is the Roman Gods and Norse gods referenced in each day more or less match up. In Latin and French it’s the names of the seven classical planets Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Sun. Tyr and Mars, and Venus and Freya are pretty good comparisons. Thor and Jupiter might not make immediate sense, but that’s the equivalent the Romans drew as both were thunder gods. Odin and Mercury on the surface looks a bit tenuous, but Tacitus drew the comparison as both were guides to the dead.
I’ve heard the order of the names of the days in Latin is based on Chaldean astrology, but I take that with a huge grain of salt as I’ve never seen a reputable historian, or archaeologist make that claim. Whilst the derivation I’ve seen works, I’ve yet to see proof of who actually came up with it.
