I think I've heard Iranians call themselves Persian before... as far as I know, "Persian" generally refers to the culture, language, and majority ethnic/national group in Iran, while "Iranian" refers to the citizenship/nationality, but can also refer to Persians and related peoples (Baluchis, Pashtuns, Kurds) who speak "Iranian languages" (i.e., a language family with a common root language - not synonymous with the "languages of Iran").
