No. The world would have been better off without that version.
Remakes are made for one reason and one reason only.
Movie executives believe they are less of a risk for their production company's cash. A tried and tested idea is less likely to be a bomb. As long as the movie business is a business remakes, re-imaginings, sequels, prequels, adaptations and rip-offs will take precedence over original ideas.
