The Parisian by Isabella Hammad

Just finished reading this fantastic book. It’s about a young Palestinian from Nablus (now in the West Bank) who goes to France to learn to be a doctor just before WW1 and spans the time up to WW2. The book covers all the main political events of the era from the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Zionism, the Balfour Declaration, general strikes, uprisings and the Mandates. All through the life of Midhat Kamal, known locally as ‘The Parisian’.

I can’t recommend this book enough.
