I love Blake's 7. You're right that it suffered from very limited special effects, especially given the vision behind the series. Still, they had very original designs such as the Liberator (and the bridge of the Liberator set was pretty epic for its time) and it was dystopian sci-fi at its very best in terms of story-telling.
Paul Darrow as Kerr Avon is one of the all time great performances of sci-fi.
