Depends on the game/gamers

Microprose games were always a treat as they not only included instructions but the manual went over the history of the aircraft involved in the game and contained essays on the historical context of the conflicts involved. Then there weere the sims they made that were pretty complex requiring huge and detailed manuals with tutorials and reference material. The first Falcon 4.0 copies came with a ring binder manual to help keep it open while studying. It was a shade over 700 pages long.
