I have to agree with you there. People don't decide they want to believe something and then just believe it.


It's just the other side of the coin that says you can't make yourself believe something. I have expressed the opinion that people believe what they want to believe, at least as adults, at least when they've been offered alternatives. Nobody really knows much about this shit, although the psychobabblers do write reams and reams about it.

To say someone believes what they perceive to be the truth comes straight from the Department of Tautology Department.
