At the start of the week,
we received some great news in the UK. The House of Commons published its report on the evidence for homeopathy. The MPs urge that the government withdraws NHS funding for homeopathy. They also propose that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) shouldn’t allow homeopathic product labels to make medical claims, or claim there are active ingredients when there are not.
This is all great news, but we have to wait for a response from the government. Who knows how long that will take. So, why not give the government a little nudge?
There is an open petition at official website of the Prime Minister’s Office, making the following simple request:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Implement the recommendations of the House Commons Science and Technology committee evidence check on Homeopathy.
While we wait, the government is still funding an alternative to real medicine, that potentially gives patients an alternative to real health.
As I’ve mentioned before, homeopathy can kill. Further information is also provided in the petition:
The House Commons Science and Technology committee has recently undertaken an evidence check on the usefulness of homeopathy and has now published its report.
The conclusions are unequivocal. They say “To maintain patient trust, choice and safety, the Government should not endorse the use of placebo treatments, including homeopathy. Homeopathy should not be funded on the NHS and the MHRA should stop licensing homeopathic products.”
The government should implement these recommendations as soon as possible.
If you wish to encourage that the government implements the recommendations from the House of Commons as quickly as possible, please take a moment to sign the petition. They just need your name and address, then they will send one email (don’t worry, no spam comes along days later), allowing you to confirm your signature. Please do check for the email and confirm, otherwise your signature is not included in the petition.
