Our brains may be the consequence of genetic and environmental factors beyond our control however we are still responsible for the choices we make. So I find myself becoming more accountable for the choices I have made in my life. Something I did not possess in my younger days. But becoming old has allowed me to see how imperfect a human being I am. I actually find it quite cathartic but I cannot afford to be complacent because as with any imperfection there is always room for improvement

It's got nothing to do with wishful thinking - I feel no pride either either so I'm clearly not simply "trying to make myself feel good". 2+2=4 as I see it - it's an inescapable truth. If anybody's fooling themselves with wishful thinking in order to feel good it is you SAM. It's people like you who are holding back the human race from sorting out our problems. Grow a pair.

How's that? I'm not the one telling everyone my shitty behavior isn't my fault

KIR if you feel no pride, what's all the stuff about smoking egos and winning?
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Just my appraisal of reality...although I should add that sometimes I do forget about how I perceive consciousness/the brain/free will and accidentally feel pride/guilt.

Sometimes I forget how I perceive red.

Then I think more closely and think it might be that I've forgotten what the word "perceive" means.

As much as I've forgotten the meaning of "disbelief" and "sarcasm", most certainly.

If I make a less sarcastic comment, then I find it impossible to believe that you can have applied even the smallest amount of thought to Fallible's comment. And I find it impossible to believe that you've simply forgotten any belief that has any meaningful impact with your own psychology.

I don't even know what that is in American slang. A finger?

Ahh, never mind, I'll live dangerously and just agree anyway.

I was going to ask what it was in British slang. I thought it was just a horribly outdated American term from the 40's.
