CBT was what I tried to try. I did years of it from eleven into my late teens to manage anxiety and depression and I definitely need a refresher. I'd never applied it to food anxiety in the past so doing so would be interesting.

What I would be interested in is to know why it would be distressing, to you, me, or generally. What's at play?

Probably because we've internalized messages of fatness and worthlessness as well as the fact it's an inconvenience. People don't need to justify their desire not to be fat though.

If these internalized messages are indeed responsible, which sounds reasonable, are there ways to alleviate their impact? Or even undo them perhaps? :)

Yes, as I mentioned, CBT is the treatment of choice at the moment.
