That's what it's like when you don't know whether to shit or go blind on this or that occasion. It's not a general condition, but can be acute, sometimes. As in, "a cute chick". I think that's dated, too, outside American collegiate frat houses.

why can't you call them women?

Fallible wrote:Why can't you just call them what they are? Are you allergic to the word or something?

Keep It Real wrote:Yeah pretty much, as are quite a few "ladies" i've met in the past. The trouble is it's got the word men/man in it.

I know, how dreadful. At least there's no doubt about what to call yourself. Imagine that, not knowing what to refer to yourself as because every word connotes something more.

Incidentally, I've never seen anyone but you say that 'woman' is unacceptable because it's got 'man' in it. Oh no sorry you, and the odd off the scale straight-up man hating crazy person.

Shit male drivers I address covertly as 'asshole'. So you see, 'lady' is not really gentler. Anytime I address a woman to her face as 'lady', she knows I mean 'asshole'.

I'm not just even-handed in my views on the sexes. I am also an equal opportunities insulter. So my daily greeting to my work colleague is 'morning, motherfucker'. My favourite insult to use towards my 17 year old daughter is 'you dick'. My usual response to Theresa May or Amber Rudd is 'that bastard'. Anyone calling me a lady has been woefully misinformed.

yep, saw that but doesn't mean you can't use it...unless you can explain why there's such an issue with that, i don't see what the trouble is....

it annoys the fuck out of me on another forum i frequent where men address their wives/partners as 'my lady'....why the fuck not just say 'my wife'...fucking cringeworthy nonsense - it's not out of respect, it's not out of deference...it's just...well....mealy-mouthed...;)

There's only two instances where I hear people refer to women as "ladies":

1. Neckbeards: *tips fedora* "M'lady!"

2. Copping an attitude: "Listen here, lady!"

Wait, so you don't want to offend people who don't like woman because it's got man in it, but you think those same people would be totally fine with "lady" or "bird"
