Who can tell me about the DiSC assessment?

#1  Postby The_Metatron » Sep 16, 2015 10:44 pm

I was invited to take this thing at work today. Yeah, mildly entertaining, I suppose. The thing that chaps my ass about it is that I have no visibility of the results of the assessment I just took.

Anyone know anything about this DiSC assessment thingy? I get the impression by reading the few articles I found on the internets (those not written by people who sell DiSC assessments), that it is comparable to MBTI.

MBTI is amusing, but not worth much more than that. I suspect this is similar.

Similar to MBTI, but comes at it from a different angle. From memory, MBTI is supposed to be more internal (learning preferences, what energises you), whereas DISC is supposed to be more about how you come across to other people. Or something. I take them with a huge pinch of salt, but have always found an element of truth that can give some insights into your own areas of strength and weaknesses, and things to watch out for when dealing with people of different 'type'. They don't necessarily point out things that you wouldn't have picked up otherwise, but can be helpful as a reminder of one's own style, and how you can vary it to suit different situations and interactions.

I've been presented with a psycho-metric test or two in my time. When I spot them I always try and be as random in my answers as possible. Don't know what that says about me beyond the fact that I think they're mostly a load of dingoes kidneys generally designed to generate irrelevant data. But I would say that - I'm a Pisces.

It seems that both have the main fault of self-identity. They both reflect how the subject thinks about themselves, or how they wish to be.

Or it seems, as is said of nunchaku: cool, but useless.
