Paarsurrey's thoughts on Buddhism

#1  Postby paarsurrey » Feb 21, 2012 8:38 pm

Buddha believed in purdah; looking at the opposite sex; men looking at the women or women looking at the men.

Is it correct?

You learn something new every day?...

Is there a point or argument you would like to make for people to consider or did you just want to get that info out there?

A minority do, but why should the vast majority? It would be far more convenient if men who believed women should "Cover up" wore a blindfold, rather than 50% of the population (women) having to "cover up, no?

It would have the added bonus, that all women could point and pull daft faces at these men, and the men would never know!

Has anyone found the question in the OP yet? It's like a treasure hunt.

No, I don't.

But in the Indian sub-continent; one is not supposed to look at the women except with restraint.

Whats your idea of "restraint"? Making other human beings cover up, because some men cannot trust themselves? Maybe some men should be given free counterconditioning therapy? It would save an awful lot of women, an awful lot of inconvenience, if not outright oppression. A blindfold would be a cheaper option though.

It's funny (in a laugh or cry kind of way). Because men supposedly can't be trusted to restrain themselves, it's the women who's lives have to restricted and curtailed.

Religion does seem to poison everything.
Once again, the only sensible approach is tentatively to reject the dragon hypothesis, to be open to future physical data, and to wonder what the cause might be that so many apparently sane and sober people share the same strange delusion

No idea. Have you tried asking some Buddhists?

Hi fellow posters!

I was talking of Buddha; not myself. I have no claim to piety or scholarship; I am just an ordinary and humble man in the street.
