History Is A Joke.

#1  Postby steamroller » Nov 28, 2018 11:35 pm

Napoleon once said, "History is a set of lies agreed upon." Tolstoy once said, "History would be a wonderful thing, if it were only true." The worst examples are where war is involved. One truism I heard about it says, "In war, truth is the first casualty." For the winning side, it remains a casualty. Which brings up another truism. "History is written by the victors."

With multiple sources these days a bit harder to write A version.

Certainly Churchill covered up Magic and Ultra in his version of WWII and spawned 1984.

There is only one version of history that matters. The true version. When the truth is suppressed, telling the true version is impossible.

Well, you're outa luck, my good man. The stuff you want to spout here, truth or otherwise, if it's what you've admitted you got banned for elsewhere, is not going to be permitted here, let alone tolerated.

Got a metric? I do. It starts by asking you to explain how division by zero is prohibited in the field of real numbers.

And yet George Santayana said: Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.

But, there's an even more apropos quotation from him, just for you:

Fanaticism consists in redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten your aim.
"He who begins by loving Christianity more than Truth, will proceed by loving his sect or church better than Christianity, and end in loving himself better than all."

We have to keep in mind the possibility that some people believe (or at least, insist) that history is aimed at something.

Never mind history. Today is written by the victors, judging by the inability of the orange simian in the White House to discern facts from the narcissistic fantasies that occupy his cranium. Good luck with that "past" thing.

I love how lightly steamed green cabbage is in one breath slagging of skepticism, and in the next insisting that accepted historical fact does not have sufficient evidence to support it.

What you've offered is a bunch of catchphrases that do not relfect historical research.
"Respect for personal beliefs = "I am going to tell you all what I think of YOU, but don't dare retort and tell what you think of ME because...it's my personal belief". Hmm. A bully's charter and no mistake."

Napoleon also said:
“Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet. Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.”

Now, ain't that the troof.

Although that may be wearing a bit thin these days.

Is it odd that I find Public Enemy more interesting and entertaining from an historical perspective?
