CdesignProponentsist wrote:My argument is, it is about the male condition and an unreasonable male fantasy. The female (unlike a real female) is programmed to be happy and attentive and always available sexually and is built like a brick shithouse.

The reason this isn't sexist in my opinion is that both sexes entertain unreasonable relationship fantasies. It is part of being human.

But only one gets to have their fantasy portrayed in this commercial (the heterosexual males). That's my problem with it, I don't think it is sexist though. Okay, so non heterosexuals are a smaller group and they want to advertise to the biggest group. Then why not market it to females? They make up more than males do in a lot of places or it is almost even everywhere else. So, why didn't they?

The ad is strongly heteronormative, so it is not sexist per se. It might be heterosexist, however.

ETA: compare it with this ad:

See, was that so hard to have the above ad?

There is a hint of bubble gum, but it's really hard to describe, it's just Irn Bru flavoured :dunno:

We get a Farmer's Market here once a month. One of the stalls is the butcher who supplies Balmoral Castle and he does the most beautiful pork and Irn Bru sausages. They are absolutely gorgeous!

Bubble gum flavored soda? I'm going to have to look for it in the local British markets.

i'm going to have to have a look next time I go food shopping - though I must say, bubble gum flavoured fizzy drink doesn't sound very enticing!

When was that, 1875? Things have changed here a lot since you came down to Scunthorpe to celebrate your 21st birthday.

Probably for the same reason My Little Pony commercials appear during the Powerpuff Girls cartoons and not during Wilfred. Most commercials are tailored to the demographic that is watching that particular program. There are plenty of commercials that have very female-centric appeal catering to the unreasonable expectations of the perfect man. I get a chuckle out of those as well.

Really? Could you show me? I only see that when it is "women's products". Everything else seems to be for hetro males. And families, which have a mom and dad.

Edited to add "and families, which have a mom and a dad."

I would call this thread a derail, but it is more like a small group chat. Off topic but still pleasant.
