I do wonder if it is possible that we overreact to it nowadays. That probably sounds heretical. On the other hand, they are probably driven underground. I think I read once about a scheme in Germany where they could get confidential advice and therapy without the contact person having to report on them.

Yep. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. I know the type of thing I'm about to say opens the door to 'yeah, but what is normal, and you can't define mental illness just according to, like, whether society agrees with your behaviour, man', but nevertheless, in my tiny uartz brain, it sort of makes sense that the last thing you might want to do with what a society has pegged as criminal or 'harmful', sick behaviour/people is to drive it or them out of sight.

Meh, I'm open to being convinced that paedophilia being unacceptable is down to nothing more than current societal norms. I'm nowhere near there yet, but I'm open to whatever argument might come along.

I'm also hardened after years of being called a cunt for doing nothing more than objecting to people calling paedophiles subhuman monsters who should be killed immediately, if not left alive to suffer under perpetual torture. I knew a therapist who refused to work with pedophiles because in her own words, she found them abhorrent. Sure, not very professional from her but at least honest and at the end probably for the best of all.

I know a lot of therapists right this VERY MOMENT!!!!!!!!!!! who won't work with them. There are different reasons. One can't stand what she calls 'weak men', her theory being that a paedophile is a weak man who goes to a weaker person in order to elevate himself. I have to admit that a lot of those I've worked with do come across as kwite pitiful and of the 'poor me' mentality, but again, that's not universal. It's far better, anyway, to be up front about this if you're in that job. I've only discovered one subset of people who I can't be non-judgemental about and so won't work with, and it's a strange one...or maybe not. It's religious zealots who want to try to teach or convert me. Gets my dander right up.
