I do wonder if it is possible that we overreact to it nowadays. That probably sounds heretical. On the other hand, they are probably driven underground. I think I read once about a scheme in Germany where they could get confidential advice and therapy without the contact person having to report on them.

Yep. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. I know the type of thing I'm about to say opens the door to 'yeah, but what is normal, and you can't define mental illness just according to, like, whether society agrees with your behaviour, man', but nevertheless, in my tiny uartz brain, it sort of makes sense that the last thing you might want to do with what a society has pegged as criminal or 'harmful', sick behaviour/people is to drive it or them out of sight.

Meh, I'm open to being convinced that paedophilia being unacceptable is down to nothing more than current societal norms. I'm nowhere near there yet, but I'm open to whatever argument might come along.

I'm also hardened after years of being called a cunt for doing nothing more than objecting to people calling paedophiles subhuman monsters who should be killed immediately, if not left alive to suffer under perpetual torture. I consider KIR's ineffectual appeals to magical thinking and flapping about morality as an improvement on that. In paedophile terms, he is Unitarian Universalism to the Catholicism of those others.

Oh, I know it. In the biblical sense. No, not in the biblical sense, because that would imply I looked at it once, then tossed it away as a load of shit, which is the opposite of what happened. Which is that I was a student at university, and no other elaboration should be necessary.

I knew a therapist who refused to work with pedophiles because in her own words, she found them abhorrent. Sure, not very professional from her but at least honest and at the end probably for the best of all.

Keep It Real seems to be kinda like her, why don't you give him a break? There is no thought crime, right? And its not like he is going Dexter on them, right? There is surely better stuff to do, right? Cmon

Fuck you, eh. :smoke:

I know a lot of therapists right this VERY MOMENT!!!!!!!!!!! who won't work with them. There are different reasons. One can't stand what she calls 'weak men', her theory being that a paedophile is a weak man who goes to a weaker person in order to elevate himself. I have to admit that a lot of those I've worked with do come across as kwite pitiful and of the 'poor me' mentality, but again, that's not universal. It's far better, anyway, to be up front about this if you're in that job. I've only discovered one subset of people who I can't be non-judgemental about and so won't work with, and it's a strange one...or maybe not. It's religious zealots who want to try to teach or convert me. Gets my dander right up.

That is what confidence is for, in my opinion, insecurity respectively. I do understand, your anger as I do have mine, but anyone is free to try to convert me because .. good luck, and if it gets too much .. fuck off :)

If we brought in some facts, Keep It Real would have to stand down from some of his claims, but I'd be surprised if it would change his feelings. So from this point of view, cooking him in his own stew serves little, tho understandable, purpose. I know this is my song but .. we all have our problems, just some can hide them better.

Yes, that's why men go to see women therapists. We're basically masochists.
