Hmm... hard to formulate the correct sentence. I guess 'secularism may make some people from some religious backgrounds more ethical and reflected'.
I know that in my own case, I had to start thinking about the very underlying reasons for morality and for the basis of belief and so on and so forth, when I started to realize that I'd become an atheist. Before that, all answers could be fairly summed up with "God wants it that way, as shown in our interpretation of his inspired texts".
That makes for a very narrow view of the world, and quite bereft of deep thought.
But not everyone who are religious is the kind of religious that I was; some (are 'allowed to') have a larger perspective on things.
