An amazing electric aviation motor sets records

I've been following this astonishing electric motor from Siemens designed for aircraft.

110 lbs 360 HP !!!!!!

It takes flight here ..

There are no current plans to take the test aircraft into series production, but the project collaboration with Airbus that began last April intends to develop hybrid-electric airliners based on scaled up versions of the Siemens electric motor.

That is amazing, you could have one of those for each wheel of a very fast car. Need some good batteries though. One thing I saw that screamed BS was how Siemans described how they worked on the design"
Researchers say they produced such a light but powerful motor by analyzing all of the components of previous electric aircraft motors and incorporating optimized improvements to these in their new prototype.

Holy shit, who coulda thought up such a brilliant approach? jesus, that's worse than the pablum you get asking ball players about the game they're going to play later.

The Extra 330LE electric aerobatic plane is powered by a lightweight electric motor that manages to deliver a continuous output of 260 kW

No mention of the batteries.

Ah! I've got it. It's the glider that contains the batteries and the tow 'rope' is the connecting cable.

Contrary to intuition for some planes ( sail planes notably) saving weight is not an issue but the light engine allows for more batteries.

A hybrid, composite airliner is not far off I think...
Most fuel is burned on take off.
One could almost envision a rail type of accelerator for airliners ala aircraft carriers which would allow shorter take off with far less fuel used.
