Difficult to tell.
But the geopolitical echoes of Russia's conflict with Crimea may dominate the song contest, which launched the careers of ABBA and Celine Dion. Many in the Copenhagen audience booed on Tuesday when Russia's, the 17-year-old Tolmachevy twin sisters, qualified for the final.

Adding to controversy, the contest's organizers said votes from Crimea - annexed by Russia - would count as Ukrainian votes, because tallies are based on existing national telephone codes.

It has been widely speculated that Russia's entry could suffer for its annexation of Crimea and intransigence on gay rights. The event is hugely popular in the gay community.

The Tolmachevy sisters, Anastasia and Maria, who won the Junior Eurovision in 2006, have not commented on the politics.

Ukrainian singer Mariya Yaremchuk, who got huge cheers when she was also voted through on Tuesday, said her preparation for the contest has been affected by the crisis in her country.

"Actually, when I was preparing in Ukraine I even couldn’t focus on working because we all were influenced by that," she told Reuters television.

Oooooo! Eurovision!!

Loving Conchita! To be honest I haven't seen any of the qualifiers so I'm in the dark, I don't even know what our Brit one is.

I am currently enjoying a quiet evening, not having a care in the world. I cracked a beer open not ten minutes ago and delighted in the cool, hoppy sensations it provided.

I decided to wander through the forum and then stumbled upon a thread with a cryptic title, so I checked it out. Ah. Song Contest. Who the hell still watches that?
What's that? Austria?

Ooooooo- Kaaaaay. Apparently a sausage is starting for Austria. A woman. With a beard. Then I remembered exactly why nobody I know cares about the ESC any more. You know, more power to them, but the appeal eludes me.

I wonder, does the sausage-y surname signify something going on under the hood, as it were?

Also, please don't win, Frau Wurst. The last thing I need is one of those contests in Vienna next year.

One more reason for Conchita to give it her best. (Or Herr Neuwirth, if you prefer his male incarnation.)

I don't care about his incarnation's gender, or face furniture, for that matter.

I just don't want this circus here.

I know. But Vienna is the perfect place for it, let's face it.

I love watching it, it's hilarious!

I can't sit through the whole thing, that can spoil the fun, but I tend to channel hop to get a feel for it then watch the scoring! It's all worth it to watch the scoring!

We used to have Terry Wogan commentating, he was fab, very droll piss taking going on. It's not the same without Terry but Graham Norton does a pretty good job.

And why is that? Apart from it being the perfect place to annoy me with that shit, since it's where I live.

Hm, it's been a while, but I remember some nicely weird people hanging about. Plus all these Eastern European types would not have to travel that far.

Weird people congregate in population centres, yes. I mean, I live here.
Anyone who is interested wouldn't have to travel far to Bratislava or wherever either. Berlin, maybe? Budapest? I don't care. Just not here.
I don't watch TV or listen to the radio when I can help it, but this would be a thing I couldn't escape no matter what.

She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!
