Ah, sorry to hear that what should've been a pleasant stay instead turned out to be disheartening.

Thank you sir! I'm an atheist, but I don't feel compelled to discuss those sorts of topics often. The main reason I still revisit are share here is your consistent positivity. Others are positive too, but the consistency of yours makes the difference. Another year here then!

:this:
The lighting on the face in the 1st panel of the 1st story...
The perspective and the amount of detail (Wow!) in the 1st panel of 'I Can Also Be Positive'...
The facial expression in the 2nd panel of 'Japan Has Spoiled Me'...

...all brilliant.

I've been trying to "crack" the technique of Ali Cavanaugh, who produces what she calls "modern frescoes" by applying watercolors to kaolin clay (instead of the lime-based plaster used in classic buon fresco)...
http://www.alicavanaugh.com/alis-modern-fresco-technique/

I think I know how she avoids the dreaded hard edge, and I've made a start on a "modern fresco" of my own. Hope to post it here sometime in the next few days.

More excellent stuff, def!

Arrgh! The 'fresco' thing with kaolin clay hasn't worked... surface is too "smeary". It actually works better with a mix of gypsum and wheatglue, but this substrate is rather lacking in durability and it has an unappealing yellow-gray hue.

I've gone back to paper. The tufting is still an annoyance, but I find it can be minimised by using gouache (thinly) instead of transparent watercolor. Doing a sci-fi pic at the moment.

Still getting used to the tablet, so I drew something simple and similar to something I've drawn already. I also hid the hands because I was lazy lol. I might need to get one of those gloves that cover the pinky and ring finger. My line work needs some work, and part of the problem is that my hand keeps sticking.
Also, depression kind of had me not drawing for a while, so I'm a little rusty. Been drawing almost everyday now since I got this tablet. :)
I thought the small size would be an issue with how some people here were talking, but that's one thing I'm not having trouble with.

Your backgrounds, your figures, your objects all come together so darn well!
People, furniture, buildings all occupy the space convincingly. In two words: 'linear perspective'. You do it so well!

Very good indeed! Facial expression, body proportions... all topnotch.

I can identify with the sticking hand problem, especially in the humid summer months. I've occasionally used a modified glove... an ordinary glove* with some of the fingers cut off.
(*- Not sure if it was cotton or nylon, and I've misplaced it now).

...depression kind of had me not drawing for a while...

Sigh, I can identify with that too. Also, in my case, so-called "analysis paralysis", in which difficulties with perspective (especially 3-point) consume so much time and become so exasperating that I end up abandoning what might've been a satisfactory piece.
:nono:

Thanks. :)
I wish I could be one of those people who gets more creative when depressed. Regular sadness is okay. That sometimes makes me want to draw, but depression is a different beast. I just don't do anything because all my effort goes to getting out of bed lol. Even when I'd try to draw, my mind would just be blank... or what you described would happen.

I always enjoy your work, def. I feel like I should be paying to see it lol.

Thanks. I've been paid for work in my life, but it was all stuff I did for myself, and someone wanted to publish later, but I've worked hard so that I don't have to sully my comics with commerce... but feel free to visit my Gumroad if you want :)

Falling even more behind as I prepare the first month collection for print. Cover work and fixing all the bad Japanese.

You are a master of hyperbole!

I’m finishing off August, and will have a 92 page collection in hand. Two more pages to get it done. I’ve been a lot slower, but I always am, in that last 20%.

This Thursday, Nov. 23, is the Kaigai Manga Festa, and Nov. 25 is Comic Art Tokyo. Both events are big draws for foreign comic makers in Japan. Not to say otaku, but people who like comics as comics.

I've prepared a few books, and will be hocking some of my older stuff. I'll post a follow up so you can see what the events are like.
