OK, peeps - share your pics, please! These are Kodachrome scanned by low-end Epson 4490 flatbed, from Kenya & Tanzania in '89 (cheaply dup'd from RDF/Ratz).

























The bottom scenic might be notable to this crowd as it's at Olduvai Gorge, the one above of the rock hyrax is the closest living relative to the elephant, for any that might not know these points. And the three bottom giraffes are Maasai, Rothschild's and Reticulated, methinks.

Brett your photography is outstanding! I have long been a fan of fine art photography, and most especially wildlife and nature photography. Good show!

Forbes (1st 2 from a distance, for context)...












(Critter tracks - likely marmot or even wolverine - are unusual on such a summit ridge, but neat to see.)






(Most were taken on the same trek; top 2 on different trips - very wide 20 / 24 mm lenses on many.)

I agree re your first pick - Mt Forbes is a wonderfully 'peakey' shark's tooth from the North - but your second pick means you get a short story related to it . You can clearly see one of my partners at the top of the rope, but you can see another person less clearly to the left. There were two guys from Michigan and on the mountain (their tent is to the left of our two in my main post) and while we were up at 3:00 to start the climb, they were up earlier. Going up the easy glacier at night was no problem in the moonlight and we likely made equal time. But when it got steep, they (most reasonably) set up fixed belays, but with our threesome we used a running belay and thus made way better time. We passed them at the bergschrund (the shot you highlighted) and scooted up to the summit in good time. Descending with a running belay, we finally saw them again about a third way down the main peak - pic below (damaged, and I'm wait for Photoshop CS5 to let it fix the upper left mess). Anyway, when they got up to the ledge we were on a few minutes later, we continued down but it was dark before we got to the tents.


Next morning, they still weren't back and my two partners started up the glacier to see if they were OK. I stayed back and we set up signals such that if I saw the two from Michigan I'd signal so "my guys" didn't just miss them and keep going up, while if help was needed due to injury or whatever, they'd signal me and I'd head out the ~20 KMs to the road and get help while they helped any injury down. As it turned out, I saw the Michigan climbers, as here...


...and signaled. My guys caught the signal - "at the last possible minute" they said - and of course headed down... never seeing the other two. When everyone was back, the Americans said they didn't feel comfortable down-climbing the rock bands in total darkness, especially given the remoteness (again most reasonably - see second pic). So they spent the night somewhere not far above the pic below.

Thanks. The original is acrylic on a 6"x6" canvas, so probably close to the size on your monitor. Some of the others I posted are much larger or smaller. The butterfly pelvises, for example, is (if I remember correctly) 28"x36". The bonsai (between the fish and the bunny) is only 3"x3".

This one is pyrography with acrylic paint on a block of wood. I think the block was 4"x4".

Thanks - all but the first 2 (taking from the south and north for context) were of a single trek to Mt. Forbes in Canada's Banff National Park, about a third way north from Lake Louise to Jasper. There's a Google Maps screen shot in a Ratz "Perfect Moment" thread post and a view of the Forbes Group from the highway if you want a closer look. If I Google Map "Howse River, AB" and zoom in a bit, I get close to it (Mt. Forbes is 14.6 kms SW of the Howse R. marker). Forbes is the highest peak within the confines of the park and the 7th highest in the Canadian Rockies.

And the 3 shots just preceding the one you highlighted were taken just ~20 m away on the summit, while the 2 shots following were from exactly the same spot with a wider lens, looking right and left. Also if you care, you're looking into The Freshfields Icefield in the shot you liked.
