Great scores from film

#1  Postby Latimeria » Jul 06, 2011 7:41 am

In case you haven't noticed, I've decided to raid the music forum tonight. I hope it's for the better.

Looking for the music you love from movies. To start off a few:

From Last of the Mohicans

From Terms of Endearment:

And from the 1999 cult classic - Boondock Saints

Your turn! GO!

A sort of spy movie from the 60s war (but really a war movie)

and from the same era

and

and before that, from the 50s, there was

I watched True Romance the other day (a bit of an ironic title), and even though I had only seen it once before, as soon as this music started playing I immediately thought of the intense and racially-charged scene with Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper:

Maybe you need to have seen the movie to fully appreciate it, but steel drums kick ass regardless...

Great soundtrack albums that should grace any music-lover's collection:
Gladiator
Chariots Of Fire
Conan The Barbarian
Dead Man Walking
Koyanisqaatsi / Powaqqaatsi / Naqoyqaatsi

And all the others I've forgotten.

And then there's this:

Two obvious choices from me. First - Ennio Morricone all are pretty good but The Good, The Bad and The Ugly theme is a classic.

Second pretty much anything by John Williams but two favourites are Star Wars and Harry Potter scores.

The main themes are good too.

One of John William's best, IMO....

The opening of the 'Buck Rogers' television series made use of an abbreviated version (orchestral only) of Stu Phillip's movie theme (orchestral + vocal). Here's the full movie theme. Its gentle, lilting rhythm is unusual for a sci-fi opening, but the visuals of Erin Gray are gorgeous. As the YouTube poster says, "Sexy, erotic and 70s awful!"

The original Hannibal Lector movie, Manhunter, has an excellent score with moody tunes from Iron Butterfly & the very understated (and oddly, little known) Shriekback. Amongst others I forget.
Check it out.
