Greatest Movie Intros

#1  Postby I'm With Stupid » Mar 14, 2011 7:41 pm

I was just reading this blog entry on Yahoo, so I thought I'd ask the question.

Their list:

The Naked Gun
A Hard Day's Night
Touch of Evil
Goldfinger
Se7en
Vertigo
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
The Pink Panther
Halloween
Watchmen
Shaft
Alien
Lord of War
Enter The Void

What's on yours?

Personally, I love the intro to Dancer in the Dark, Star Wars and Weekend (rest of the film's shit though).

Watchmen was the first one that sprang to mind. Juno too: the gal swigging down litres of Sunny-D as she bumbles along.

I really like the beginning to Casino Royale too.

Oh, and how could I forget Blade Runner?

The opening sequence of Octopussy (1983) was better than anything in the remainder of the movie....

Other fine Bond-movie opening sequences:

* The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
* Moonraker (1979)

The opening sequence of 'Up' (the animated movie) is kinda cute!

I think Pulp Fiction does a pretty good job of getting you up for it. "Any of you fucking pricks move..." So much in the general conscience now it's easy to forget how great it was first time round.

And, for *ahem* entirely different reasons, the opening of Barbarella has stuck with me since my early youth.

Though filled with technical errors, the intro scene of Space Cowboys is great.

Saving Private Ryan has to be one of the finest intro scenes (both the bit at the Normandy cemetery, and the next scene at Omaha Beach) ever filmed, IMO. Within 10 minutes I was trembling with adrenaline and my wife was crying. Stunning.

This was the first thing I thought of when I read the title.

Lord of the Rings
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.
