Nick Simmons, son of KISS' Gene Simmons, has started publishing a comic Incarnate. Since the book's release last year, fans have started noticing startling similarities to the manga Bleach, as well as several other professional and amateur works. The publishing company has since halted production under the accusations, and several websites have called attention to the similarities by printing side-by-sides. The livejournal community I'm linking to has dozens of the side-by-side comparisons, as well as links to other relevant articles and updates.

Many people online have come out and said comics are rife with homages and that swiping poses here and there is not plagiarism, just a nod to what he loves. Others have said the similarities are too many and too obvious to be anything but copyright infringement.

So what do you guys think? Homage? Simple swiping? Or blatant plagiarism?
