The female form of "Thor" (Tor in Swedish) is "Thora" (Tora; real name but quite rare).

The names Tove and Tova are the result of sound changes that have applied to the name Þórfríðr, which meant "beautiful Thor". For non-Scandos reading this, these are female names, except Tove is a "slightly" gender-neutral name: there's a few men by that name in Sweden. (Might be that the similarity to male name Ove somehow licenses such a thing).

I enjoy comics, people enjoy Doctor Who, and other works of fantasy. And they comment about things they lime, or don't like.

There's a thread on it, isn't there?

It's hardly a hot-button issue, as evidenced by the activity in it. But yes, people who like comics are interested in discussing them.

The real question is why you are wasting time posting in a thread you claim to be a waste of time.

tuco wrote:To me its like when playing RPG someone refuses to lower Intelligence of character to 3 from "role-playing" point of view .. oh really? lol

I have no idea of what you are saying here.

My best guess is that you are referring to people who use INT as a "dump stat" for their minmaxed combat machine of a fighter refusing to play the resulting character as a moron.

In which case, the GM should absolutely make them roll for anything involving thought. Fuck, if they've dropped their INT to that of a squirrel to get an extra STR point, I'd be making random rolls - in the middle of combat -to see if their armor falls off.

tuco wrote:Those are fairy tales, anything is possible. To look for logic or consistency .. alright but I guess I lack the imagination needed.

Even fantastic tales need their own internal consistency.

Quite and again as I stated, I think Marvel is trying to show its gender inclusive-ness with moves like this and I feel it is unneeded. Marvel has brilliant female heroes and the creation of a Thor-like heroine would be alright! Hell if they had a comic about Freja I would be all down for that, but instead they are creating a new character and giving her the identity of a well-established character. That is poor writing and a poor decision.

The "political" sense behind the move is in my opinion distracting.

Yeah, as a comparison within Marvel itself, in the mainstream they have introduced Silk. A woman who got bit by the same spider that bit Spiderman, and was tucked away since then.
Then there is SpiderGwen, from an alternate universe with her own story and mythos where Gwen Stacy got bit instead of Parker.
Both have been pretty well received.
And of course there are female spider characters that simply need a good writer and some attention from the company.
There are ways to do it that work better.
Or when they switched out Peter Parker for Miles Morales.
I actually have enjoyed the run so far, despite my issue with it.
Just a few things could have been done differently.

Yes, it seems like a way to attract more interest in the title, as a business decision it appears to be working. The new Thor outselling old Thor.

People in publishing like making profits.

Hollywood does the same by endlessly rebooting films over and over again.

Jane Smith. Apparently while dieing of cancer she got to the moon and picked up the hammer. Since each transformation takes a toll on her, wont be long before the Odunson is Thor again. Maybe.

Yep. Man, I don't know.
Marvel has done a few character changes that were just clumsy.
I have enjoyed the story with a few gripes.
Thor lost the hammer on the moon, and somehow normal human with cancer was able to go there and get the hammer.

Don't worry everyone. She'll still be played by Scarlett Johansson or Emma Stone when they make it into a film.

Yep. I've always wondered why the actors themselves don't get stick for whitewashing, as if they're entirely innocent in the process. Maybe if the big actors weren't willing to take such roles, they might actually give it to someone who's the correct race.

I think Scarlett will make a great Pocahontas in Disney's live-action remake!

Initially I didn't like the idea, but as more info has come out detailing the premise I sort of like it.
Though I'm not a big fan of teenage characters not being a teenager anymore, might be good to get new readers in.
Still, it has a shelf life. Tony will be back in the armor come the next film.

There was a kind of 'what if' where Tony Stark and Potts bugger off to the moon and retire, while the Iron Man role was left with Tony's young protege, a bright lad who worked in the labs. Can't remember the name
