Online Radio

#1  Postby hoopy frood » May 11, 2013 11:11 pm

I've been trawling around for interesting online radio stations for a while now. Found a few ok ones but there's so many available I could do with some reccomendations to help me seperate the wheat from the chaff. I listen to a lot of radio for all sorts of discussion shows, comedies, dramas, documentaries, and of course, music.

Doesn't matter where in the world they are or the language used but obviously any that are not in English (or French) would only be useful to me if they are primarily music stations. Feel free to reccomend specific shows too.

Les Grosses Têtes, on RTL, a french radio. Cultural/comedy from 16h to 18h every day. Good level in french required.
This show has been around for 30+ years, and still successfull.

Thanks for that, bookmarked.

Just the sort of thing I'm looking for and even better, the 4-6pm slot is free in my listening schedule and needing something good to fill it. Parfait! Lets just hope my rusty french oils up soon. :dopey:

The listen again feature for the show you mentioned wouldn't play for me but the station itself does, so I'll try again later. In case anyone else is interested in checking it out, here's the homepage.

http://www.rtl.fr/

Is it a good station in general would you say or is it just really that one show you tune in for?

Eta: Les Grosses Têtes just started.

Cheers, still tuned in and listening to a 'best of' Les Grosses Têtes.

They've done nothing but talk about penises for the last 20 minutes..

Should I pretend to be surprised?

KCRW is good. Covers talk, music, news. Pretty progressive and eclectic.

Re: Online Radio I am a total fan and listen to avoid ads..etc

http://tunein.com/ is my primary happy hunting ground where I happen upon all the French Stations one could possibly want, all the Leftie Progressives (American) you could possibly dream of, and wonderful off the wall decent rock stations that play bloody good music.x
Progressive/Leftie: The Americans have really stolen a march on us in terms of providing Progressive Stations despite American relevance

http://tunein.com/radio/Progressive-Ble ... o-s149387/
http://tunein.com/radio/Progressive-Rad ... k-s128061/
Classic Rock Solid Tunes
My favourite, no ads, just tunes and lovely Presenter

http://tunein.com/radio/Deep-Tracks-971-s52427/
He is at pains to play what he calls 'deep tracks' ie uncommon tracks not the usual tracks done to death by dj's worldwide.
Specialist Bands

http://tunein.com/radio/4-Ever-Floyd-Radio-s108447/ Pink Floyd
http://tunein.com/radio/Springsteen-Radio-s123922/ Bruce Springsteen is a Leftie to his credit.
http://tunein.com/radio/CLASSIC-METAL-RADIO-s109915/ Classic Metal nuff said.
Planet Rock is great but the ads....
I like the idea of Stations dedicated to individual Bands. I also like Ad Free. With Ad surveillance systems in place I would prefer my Radio to be ad free and purposely avoid stations that use them unless I have an artful way of silencing them whilst still be in tune with the debate whatever.
Online Radio is one of my key pleasures, a way of fighting the likes of the Neoliberal Propaganda Machine that is the BBC and mainstream broadcasters.
I have more and will edit post to post more. Enjoy!

Do you have in iOS device? I use Radio Pro HQ. It searches the whole world for whatever you want to listen to.

Manky windows. I'd be surprised if there isn't a similar app for you, though.
