The Hurt Locker wasnt visually stunning, and the characters were shallow and the plot was thin and derivative. The Hurt Locker was trying too hard to be realistic, but failed. Avatars characters had a lot more depth and the story was simple, yet superior.

So yeah, Avatar was more deserving of Best Picture than The Hurt Locker.
