I'm not nitpicking, it's a cool feature.

Not to mention the 40x digital zoom on top of the 20x optical. No camera that I know of comes close at that price.

It's 4x digital zoom + 20x optical, I'd just mentioned that upthread.
It also says 40x intelligent zoom, whatever that is. I'm only interested in the optical I think.

Intelligent zoom is ten times better than just digital zoom which just results in a blur. I will post my shots of the moon at full zoom plus 40x digital. Problem is, I have to many trees around here to get a decent pure shot. Best time to snap the moon is before dusk, which I haven't had the chance to lately.

I doubt Intelligent zoom is nothing more than a just gimmick name of digital zoom you cannot get something from nothing.

A bit of fun with my new gears :)

My camera has a feature where it uses the fact that you're shooting in less than full resolution to give you extra zoom range by only using the middle of the sensor. Obviously it's most useful in video, where you're always throwing most of the image away. But it also works if you have your camera set to take smaller pictures than the maximum. So maybe it's something like that?

Taken using the 80x digital zoom. Not as sharp as I would like, but certainly not a blob either.

I think it could be a lot clearer without using the digital zoom, but cropping on the computer.
I bought a new tz27 online, hopefully it's on the way. :)

TZ27 is the same camera as TZ30 I believe. Yes, I could've just taken the shot then crop it. But I just wanted to test the zoom.

I went to the department store I bought it from this morning, and they now have a $399.95 price on it. Doubt if bargaining will bring it down to what I paid for it. It was the most expensive compact camera among a range of around 12-14 there.

Blasted. I will never use the GPS. but the TZ27 is not available around here. Darn it, could have saved maybe $50.

Shit I would have used gps, I thought it had it. Oh well, it's not worth $70 more dollars.
I paid $178. :)

 If you weren't on the other side of the planet, I would have swapped it with you. But then I prefer the black lens of the TZ30.

I don't think I want a touchscreen, do I? That might frustrate me, especially if it didn't work mint.
But I do see potential there. :dopey: :dopey:

Can you control the ISO on that camera? If you can set it down to 200 or so, you'll probably get even better results, with detail even in the brightest areas. When I shoot the moon, I use a tripod and shutter-release delay (timer) to reduce vibrations, and therefore, blur.

^^^Yes I can control the ISO in P mode. It's a tripod I have to get. But am still limited to my backyard unless I take a drive out of town.

I'm in Aus just now and could be persuaded to part with the Lx7.
Not finding I need it with the GX1

But this was taken with a 300mm lens, plus a 1.7x teleconvertor, giving a 510mm, which with 50mm as a standard lens, gives about 10x magnification. That's a lot less than your 80x. One major difference is that it's all optical magnification, whereas the so-called 'digital' zoom is almost certainly a cipher for in-camera cropping.

BTW, I can blow this up to fill my 21" monitor, with no pixelation & plenty of detail.

[Looks in cupboard]

I have too much photography equipment.

Anyone want a 35mm camera?
