I hope nobody loses any respect for me for this...

I just think he's a great rapper...his words flow together so well. And Rick Rubin is such a brilliant producer, he's fantastic at mixing rap and rock...just listen to the beat in the background! It's obviously rock inspired.

I promise I won't subject any of you to anymore of that, then.

And no offense to OP, but the across the board country hate is borne of ignorance, seems to me. People write it all off because of the garbage they hear on the radio, when country has been around for quite awhile and there's a load of it that's great that I'm willing to bet most people who immediately say they hate all country haven't even heard (of) before.

I feel the same way... about both points... so I'm really just posting songs from genres I don't care for much.

I don't usually like rap or hip-hop, but there are some good ones out there.
I really love Bone Thugz & Harmony.

OOOH!
I like the Transplants! I'm a huge Rancid fan [they're the first punk band I heard of on my own, after finding their album at the library!] and Travis Barker [of Blink 182, who I'm not ashamed to say I've loved since I was 12] is a great drummer!

And my husband is a fan of Cypress Hill. This reminds me of when I was talking to my dad about what kind of music the hubby liked [my dad is even more in to music than I am...so much so that he's now taking guitar lessons at the age of 44!], and I mentioned Cypress Hill...and my dad said "Does he smoke the hippy lettuce??"

Rancid was one of my 1sts too. I heard a little bit of them throughout the 90's, but really got into them in 2000.

I like Blink 182, especially their early immature shit.

You linked to a song from possibly one of the most intelligently produced albums in the world, the physical copies of which are viewed as a precious commodity among true music lovers, and you act embarrassed about linking to the song?!

Oh no, my friend, be embarrassed that you hate hip hop! Not that you like that song :naughty: ;)

EDIT: My comment would make more sense if you were linking to the version I thought you were linking to...

Jay Z - 99 Problems/ Beatles - Helter Skelter, from Dangermouse's "Grey Album". My other comment stands though, you should not hate hip hop!

I guess it's more of a general rule. There are exceptions, but I wish I knew more about "indie" hip hop. The "indiest" hip hop I'm familiar with that I like is the Gorrilaz. But I have heard really good things about Dangermouse, "Grey Album," in particular. We recently got our new computer, so that means we have loads of space to devote to new music, so I"ll have to keep my eyes peeled. Any other recommendations?

Johnny Cash seems to be the exception for everyone. I have a few more exceptions [I really like bluegrass], so I've just stopped saying I don't like country. It's easier that way
Getting back to The Man in Black, though, I remember being in high school when he died, and seeing all these goth kids show up to school in the next week wearing his shirts. It amazed me how much his music transcended genre back then, and it still does.
