Sony's playstation network still offline

#1  Postby DoctorE » Apr 25, 2011 11:49 am

Sony's popular PlayStation Network is still down, five days after it was hacked.

It has become a major embarrassment for the gaming giant, with no word yet from Sony on when it will be back online.

The Network, for Playstation 3 consoles, is used by about 70 million people worldwide.

John Biggs is the editor-in-chief of CrunchGear, a blog about gadgets, games, and tech culture. He says the online attack happened after some of Sony's network passwords were leaked.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the news recently that Sony the right to access to the history of people visting websites about hacking the PS3 even though the majority of people who go on the sites have no intention at all to hack their PS3?

Only a matter of time before it happens to them. Besides in my opinion playing online is so over rated anyway, I only go on the Playstation network to download any demos or free add ons/ expansion packs for games I have.
Disagree with an opinion just say so but don't be a dick about it.

^ not the same thing.

It could happen to individual PC games (like WoW) or to an entire service (like Steam) though. While it sucks for the impacted users it's good that such flaws in highly centralized services are revealed.

This is getting beyond the joke. I can live without online gaming for a few days but Sony's silence on the issue is baffling.

Ah, so that's what's going on. I was trying to watch Netflix on my PS3 a few days ago and was wondering why PSN was being even more of a bastard about signing in than usual. Fortunately I've just been using the Wii instead

This doesn't look like it's going to be fixed any time soon.

I just glad I have and will always use pre-paid cards on the internet so I'm not worried in the slightest.

This would appear to explain why it is still down:

Looks as though there has been a major breach of security and it looks as though the UK's Information Commissioner has/will be in a complete state of humour failure.
