I patronize second-hand media dealers for hard copy, and don't subscribe to streaming services. To buy new physical media or pay for access to streams is like paying someone to spank you. If it turns you on, well, you're a private, consenting adult, and who's to judge? I have tried it, just to see what is was like. Not the spanking, I mean, but sometimes... I mean, I was paying for Spotify for several months and simply noticed that some of their material was being streamed at a mediocre bit rate. Maybe they've cleaned up their act, now.

When the world doesn't present the facts you want: just wiggle your nose, click your heels, and hey presto there's a sentence you can form to generate an assertion that's at least as good as boring old factual reality, surely even better considering the huge and weighty ramifications!

There are also people out there who will tell you that Cuties was a very morally appropriate film for all ages that didn't at all flop. What you are doing right now is not helping your case and—"hey presto"—you are just now learning not only about how to try to disguise your dialect but also why the long run here is not in your favor.

Business Insider: Amazon has been suspiciously quiet about 'The Rings of Power' viewership in the 2 weeks since the first season concluded

Something was suspiciously absent from Amazon's quarterly earnings release Thursday: any new viewership numbers on its prestige "Lord of the Rings" series, "The Rings of Power."

It's been nearly two weeks since the first season of the show, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make, concluded on October 14th. Amazon has yet to release any viewership numbers on the finale, and the earnings release published Thursday repeated a vague stat that the company first teased more than three weeks prior.

On October 4, Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke said in a splashy Variety cover story that the show was "cresting toward 100 million customers having watched it."

The show was only mentioned one time in Amazon's quarterly report on October 27, reiterating that the show was "closing in on 100 million viewers to date."

That means that Amazon has yet to cross that threshold — more than three weeks after first touting the squishy number as an achievement.

I found out about all of this from a video by YouTuber Nerdrotic, aka "Dave from the pub":

The comments are as gold as the roofs of Khazâd-dum at its height:

As someone who works in tech, I already find it really funny that anyone would just take such a thoroughly evil company like Amazon at their word. Adding wokeite leftists eagerly running to the defense of such an entrenched corporate power to the mix makes it even funnier. When all the lying, omissions and deletion of YouTube comments and reviews on IMDb (a site they own) are no longer enough to hold it together, I'll be absolutely sure to show up here to holler and throw peanuts at everyone who was gullible enough to fall for the notion that Amazon had anything other than a huge steaming turd on their hands.

Same motivated cherry picking as before.

Hard evidence? Pshawww! Let's turn to what the bloke down the pub said: that's what matters in post-truth land.

But being extremely vague and cagey about RoP in their Q3 report is hard evidence. On that note, how insufferable would you like me to be when I inevitably get vindicated?

You know, the hard evidence you keep trying to explain away while assuring us that it has 'bombed' based solely upon what you and your mate Dave down the pub said.

Stop rubbing yourself off in public and no one will have anything to comment on.

It's far more disturbing for others to have to watch you, but the idea that it's impolite to comment on it is risible. Stop and the observations about it will stop. The balls, as might be said, are in your hands.

Can we establish this as fact or not?

Nielson ratings, a measurement of viewership of shows in the USA, has RoP in 3rd position with 988 million minutes of viewing.

https://www.nielsen.com/top-ten/

3 Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power 7 988

If this is finally acknowledged as fact, then some work needs be done explaining the repeated assertions of the show having 'bombed'.

Else there's no possible means of calibrating realities.

Or else, there may be some reason 'we' have that you don't understand, empathize with, or appreciate.

I tend to agree with the former, but think the latter is the same kind of motivation that drives post-truthism. Not being able to be proven wrong also means not being able to be proven right - it's no different than saying 'I have an opinion', and no one would dispute that you have an opinion, it's the content of that opinion which is potentially disputable.

I think Tolkien would love to see his work continue to mean something to future generations - it was, after all, an emulation of a mythic cultural narrative, and mythic cultural narratives survive the eons by being retold in a way that resonates with current generations.

I'm sure Tolkien—who didn't like adaptations of his material when he was alive—would absolutely cheer on the even further intersectional feminist deviation from his own work.

More importantly, Nielsen is the same organization whose numbers Amazon has consistently found fault with and the same organization whose numbers suggest that RoP is running out of steam as early as season 1. Honestly this whole situation is looking like a recap of when some (former) high school friends gloated about how scuffed Burning Man the Dakota Access Pipeline protests succeeded in preventing oil infrastructure not actually on an Indian reservation from being constructed, leading to opportunities for hilarity like pointing out that the supposed images of the popo burning down tipis were actually just still frames from the HBO production of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.

That's the wonderful thing about it. It matters not where it came from:

Azaghal wrote:
If you think the "racists" et al. are losing their minds as you seem to believe, I can only imagine what Old Man Tolkien would have thought. To be fair, I don't think he would have liked the Peter Jackson films much at all either, though I enjoyed them, but I can only imagine how many millions of homes could keep the lights on by hooking up Tolkien's revolving corpse to a power generator now.

I could write Ph.D., well not me but someone probably could, thesis on it and it would not make it closer to reality. You don't appreciate how wonderful that is? We coud write thousands and thousands of pages here and nothing would change about the fact that it cannot be known. To me, that is just wonderful.

What can be done is extrapolating how he might react from known biographical details about the man, rather than what Spearthrower did, which was projecting his own psychological characteristics onto Tolkien.

It's kind of like speculating about whether Thomas Jefferson would have liked to tap Nicki Minaj's ass. Unknowable in the 100% sense, but probable.

I understand what can be done. I am not sure how strong your conviction about the matter at hand is, however. I mean honestly, I don't really care, I was to ridicule your "imagination" in the cited paragraph.

Just as I am sure he wouldn't know what you're wittering about.

This is how you protect your world view from inspection - by explaining away inconvenient facts. So despite the hard fact that you have fuck all reason to repeatedly claim that RoP 'bombed', and despite the fact that viewing data from a long established organization known throughout the industry provides empirical evidence to the contrary, you'll still cling to your quasi-religious beliefs because you're not interested in what's true, only what your feelies decree.
