Anyone spent time with the Spiderweb games? It's a single guy who's been making indie rpg's since the mid 90's -- Avernum (previously Exile), Geneforge, Avadon, etc. They're more or less the same stylistically, very minimal, kinda ugly mostly text-based, with a relatively simple but enjoyable stat system. They can be difficult, but I wouldn't say they're hateful like old fashioned rpg's can be...at least, not as far as I've gotten. The big seller is the open world with thoughtful stories, lots of conflicting factions and you deciding where you stand. The interface can be pretty clunky, but the writing is good and overall they have an enjoyable atmosphere.

Yup. They're on gog as well. Only one I didn't get into was Avadon. Geneforge is one of my favourite series though.

Cool! Yeah, I got them from GOG. Apparently he's doing a "remastering" of Geneforge like he's done with the first 3 games of Avernum games. Which is great, I'm playing around with Geneforge right now and the story is really cool, but the interface is pretty rough.

I've tried playing some of Avadon, although I thought I wouldn't like it because of how streamlined it is with not being able to design your characters, I haven't really minded so far. I've got 6 Avernum and 5 Geneforge games to get through, I can enjoy a more casual romp on the side.

Nethergate might be worth checking out too. Never developed into a series but I quite enjoyed the story and setting.

I did an interview with Jeff Vogel way back when, but it's disappeared off the internet now. It's a lot of work surviving as an indie dev for as long as he has.

Yeah I'm curious about Nethergate, will check it out after I've made some headway with these other ones. Thought I was moving along pretty well with Geneforge, then I found out there's 78 areas  It's going to take hundreds of hours to finish this series alone!

That's cool you did an interview, if it ever finds its way up again please let me know, I'd like to watch it. The small dev thing is definitely part of the appeal for me.

A neighbor just loaned me his copy of Dark Souls (remastered) and I love it. The disc and case were sprayed with disinfectant! The learning curve of all the features is a bit steep, and the enemies are tough as hell, but damn is it ever fun! So, I found something else to keep me from doing something worthwhile.

My personal best game ever. Make sure to check out worthy clones like Bloodborne, Nioh, and Sekiro down the line.

The Last of Us 2... seems to be in the middle of a shit storm. Some disgruntled employee has allegedly released the main story, with screen shots. Fans are all over Reddit and YouTube freaking out and calling for a boycott. Others are similarly wild but concerned that this 'whisleblower' has fucked over their poorly paid co-workers. Apparently it was all about bad working condition and pay. Seeing this in the literary world before, it could be Sony pushing Naughty Dog for a release.. dunno

Sony just denied those allegations about an employee being the source of the release. In fact, it's a bug in a previous release that allowed someone to hack into ND's servers.

Honestly, I'm surprised they took so long to make MLP Street Fighter.
