Can a single game be the best for everyone?

#1  Postby Lockon-Stratos » Oct 04, 2012 3:41 am

If one game does something that one person or a group of people would call quality, let's say it has graphics that are appropriate for the times, features and gameplay that appeal to the parties invested can it argued that the game is the best for everyone even those who are not interested in what the game has to offer?

No.

But this is not the end of it right? ;)

edit: Can ..? Yes it can, but it is unlikely, or better yet, there is no such a game as far as we know.

I would say no, I don't think that any game ever could appeal to everyone and be labelled the best.

No, i don't think so either.

For example, I dislike sports games; I love sports and am also a soccer fan, like most Europeans. But I dislike and never play sports games. Someone else might only play sports games.

If your bag is say golf sims, real time strategy, with the occasional RPG then Half Life 2 is not going to be for you. No matter how awesome Half Life 2 is.

In my experiance games tend to be better when made for a core audience.

Of course not.

It wouldn't be any different from me stating that orange is the best colour and that anyone who fails to accept this manifest truth was just wrong.

There will never be a game that everyone will love and there will never be a game that everyone will hate. Everyone has their own tastes with games much like TV shows and movies so it doesn't matter if they do a game that has amazing graphics, amazing story, amazing controls and so on cause that game won't appeal to all gamers.
Disagree with an opinion just say so but don't be a dick about it.
