You know you can play mid install right?
The installer will prioritize game components as needed while you play. The only downside is that cut scenes can buffer like mad, but you can always go back and watch them again from the main menu.

Mine wouldn't play until 100%

"Messing up" your character is not fun or deep gameplay. It only forced you to read articles online about "how to do it right" which lead to there being about 0 customization in the game. There were "variants", yeah, but that was people deliberately "messing up" their characters for the sake trying out different things for fun.

However, what you seem to be espousing is the BNet kind of notion - same situation in WoW. The idea that one has to be 'best' at a given thing. One has to burn something faster, or be able to take the most damage.
No one seems to understand that burning something down a bit slower can actually be negated by also being able to take significantly more damage than the traditional 'burner'.
Of course, playing Multiplayer, you can have individuals performing specialised roles - so a warrior can play all out tank with 0 offensive capacity because his mates just need a meat-shield and they've got a nuker who'd incidentally die in 1 hit. The problem is that people assume that this is the most effective way to min-max, or in fact, the only way it can be done. However, perfect solutions only exist on paper - you can watch people who play MMORPG's run through this discovery time and time again with amazement that X class CAN actually tank, or Y class managed to keep EVERYONE alive with healing... because they'd grown so accustomed to this cookie-cutter mentality.

Oh, man. I played a Feral Druid in Vanilla WoW, and I kicked ass at it. You have no idea how much I grew to hate the mentality you just described.
