What we know about EUIV.

Personally, I'm very excited about the new changes.

Can't help I'm afraid Micro.

I went back to play Total War the other night after conquering the world as Scotland in EU3. Just couldn't get into it. I think I've truly been converted to a Europaphile.

Currently playing as Naples in the late 1400s. Allied myself with Milan and the two of us are doing a good job at keeping Venice in check. Had really good relations with Castile for a long time (although no alliance) but the land I took off Morocco in a Crusade must of been too tempting for them. After revocation of our military access pacts and a couple of diplomatic insults they waged a colonial war against me. I managed to survive and actually take a couple of African provinces off them but only because they had no navy (presumably because of a previous war they waged against England, Portugal and Aragon) so couldn't transport their massive armies across the Gibraltar strait.

Off to play more now... :smoke:

I can't keep myself away from this game. Unfortunately I struggle to stick with one campaign and get excited about a different nation/play style so I've given up on Denmark (and about 5 nations since then).

How do we think this will turn out? Woops!

I think you're fucked... :coffee:

Just played my first game through to the end. I was Novgorod then became Russia. I conquered all of Asia with the exception of India and half of China, most of Indonesia, some of Japan and was making half decent inroads to western North America. I managed to keep Austria, whom I shared most of my western borders happy with regular gifts. But if the game had continued beyond 1821 I think Bohemia would of kicked my arse. I'd never bothered to Westernise my technology.

Oooh! I just got a mail from Paradox gifting their forum with a code to download a free copy of EU3 Chronicles.

Would anyone like that?

If I don't get a response by tomorrow, I'll find a realworld friend to give it to! ;)

I would very much like that. I can offer a DOTA 2 key, if you want it. :) I can actually give you several.

ETA: Although, obviously, RL friends would take precedence if it were me, so don't sweat it.

I think you can play it against bots, but that is obviously not in the least bit fun. It's, for all intents and purposes MP only, yes.

Also, much obliged, my good man. Next time you need someone's kneecaps broken, just point them out to me.

I have a list already!

Yeah, I am not into MP games tbh - I'm happy to play MP with friends, but by and large none of my friends play games any more... everyone did something I believe they called 'growing up' - not something that sounds particularly healthy to me, so I shan't be buying into that one.

EU3 is a really tough game at the start. I recommend playing Castille first time or you will probably get trounced. Second time round Austria's your man, er nation, which is awesome for you! Perfect time for Austria actually just so long as you don't get into any bitch fights with Bohemia. You start with a gold mine, can probably become HRE at the first election, retain it thereafter and basically own Europe! I got a game where I literally made Austria become HRE then took the whole of Europe - the world was my shellfish.

Oh, I've played EU3 before, but it was a *COUGH* version a friend gave me. Lots of fun, but then my HDD decided to up and die and I lost it. I was actually waiting for it to come across me on a Steam sale so I could buy it (And Crusader Kings 2, actually), because I love Paradox a big, huggy bunch and wanted to throw some money their way for the hours of entertainment their games have provided me with. Turns out I won't be buying EU3 now, you heartless bastard! What have you done?

I'll buy CK2 one day, though. Promise.

I got CK2 and sort of played it for a while and just kind of grinned at the screen a bit, told everyone how weird it was, then never looked at it again.

It's a sort of non-game. I can't really find what one is supposed to do, and even if there is something one wants to do, it seems like it's not very practical to do it. :)

I sorta like the idea of not really bothering with silly things like war, but instead indulge in backstabbing, incest and fratricide. GRR Martinesque, if you will. I'm also willing to bet that there's a GoT mod for this game anyway.

I slowly took over Ireland, nursed my dynasty, planted children in courts across Europe, then one of my heirs failed to produce a son, the poor lass that took over spent a lifetime chasing round Ireland stomping on rebels, then just when she'd got them all under control, several huge nations decided they wanted a chunk of the Emerald Isles.

I guess it's best played as some kind of early medieval soap opera.

This game has been on my mind recently, even though I have never played it again since the above post.

Does anyone have a link to a really comprehensive guide including 'what you should be doing' and 'how to do that'. I guess I have the compulsion to paint the map with my nation's colour, but I am not sure whether that's actually the usual objective.

With your dynasty's colour, but yes, that's a basic goal you can go after.

Kersch did a really informative written LP for EUIII, that helped me get started on that one. I only glanced through his CK2 LP, but based on the EUIII one alone, I'd recommend that.

The beginner's guide on CKII Wiki looks ok: http://www.ckiiwiki.com/Beginner%27s_guide

The game is a sandbox and has no real goal, other than keeping your dynasty alive so the game doesn't end. You can paint the map if you want. As you might already realize, it doesn't focus on any nation, but on your ruler and his dynasty; you could start out in say, France, but end up as King of England, and maybe even lose your lands in France.

Strangely, I too just recently had the urge to play CK2 after a couple of years of not playing.

I'd really like to play through as Byzantium, form Rome, then export it into EUIV.

I was about to say that I'd probably know all the info in a beginner's guide, but looking at it, there does appear to be a lot of useful info there, cheers! :)
