Yes - from a purely scientific interest point of view, the engine they have for creating solar systems and planets is quite amazing. All the parts of the Milky Way that we know about are where they should be (and you can go visit them), but everything else is generated by the game's engine, trying model as accurately as they can what each system would be like. So if you've got a planet orbiting a star at a certain distance, the game models what that planet will most likely be like, taking into account the formation of the rest of that given system.
I think you'd find exploring particularly interesting.
The rest of the game is great as well though and improving all the time, although I think the PvP combat focus to placate the xbox crowd and the pvpers on the PC, is going to derail development for a little while. Game does need improved mission content and narrative, to help give the universe some flavour.
And I'm still learning about the flight mechanics even now. Pulled off a manoeuvre in my FDL last night that I wouldn't have thought possible.
