Star Wars: The Old Republic

#1  Postby Wuffy » Jan 04, 2012 5:18 am

So no thread on this yet.

Well I'm on and I'm in, I love, I've gushed over it in the currently playing thread, and I'm wondering who else is on?

I'm in an Empire Side Guild with a bunch of friends it's great fun.

Now I need some Republic friends on a different Server :P

Personal Opinion but hey a quick recap.

Pro's:
-Cinematic and Story Driven
-Crafting Missions instead of Map Grinding.
-Spaceship Missions (Fun diversion)
-Story Feels Different for each Character class with each getting an Arc, chances for Light/Dark)
-Voice Acting. (I always said if wow had this I would never have left.)
-Codex hunting (Information hidden around the worlds, to be found revealing more story and will point out if you have some left to discover or not)

Neutral:
-Glut of powers. They are paced evenly apart enough to learn and practice slowly but I've gone questing and gained 3 levels at times before heading back to catch the trainer because I was on a roll and suddenly have a large pile new stuff to play with.

Cons:
-Interface issues (I'm level 31 and I'm running out of Quick button slots, the mild niggles, the ease at which you trash equipment instead of equipping it.
-Really poor Chat interface (Seperate from regular interface because whispering, all channels, NPC banter, Buy/sell, all land in the same block which ends up easily scrolling past what you want. No ability to make seperate tabs for guild party, and/or private.)
-MMO grind, (it gets a little repetitive despite the environment changes)
-Shitty Auction house. (Auctioneer spoiled me.)
-WoW Crafting. (Eve spoiled me.)

There's probably a lot more. But that's my highlight reel right now.
Soon my Legacy name shall be unlocked.... Soon.

Server is down at the mo but when it comes back up, check out Nathema. ;)

Are you PvP or PvE?
I never did mind the little things.

Is there a monthly fee to pay?

I checked their website, and some reviews, but couldn't find any details. How much is it?
The game itself is extremely expensive.

it's around 12 euros a month, like all monthly-fee MMO.

And the game itself is not that expensive, if you take the normal edition

I'm on a PvP simply because everyone else chose to go there before I joined them.
In Wound in the Force, which has a MASSIVE number of Empire Characters vs Republic.

But I'm much more of a PvE player, if I want PvP there are battlegrounds.

Is there a free to play option?

I always get tired of MMO's because of being in Thai-time zone and consequently missing all group play with friends from back home.

Edit: read further.

I've been enjoying this one a lot. My 32 Trooper Vanguard is a beast with high AoE damage and high defenses (~45% dmg resist, 33% shield absorb, ~26% activate chance). I finished act 1 so I've unlocked the legacy stuff, hopefully that gets released soon.

Overall I'm happy with it. The quality seems pretty high with the voice acting and ongoing storylines for each planet. There is also quite a bit of encouragement to try different classes since the stories are different and they earn legacy points.

I still don't have the driving skill, spending my credits on other stuff for now.

I just unlocked my Legacy at 33 last night.
Now all my characters on the server contribute to my legacy score.. See I wish I'd know that before I have 4 characters already before I got to my legacy.

Anyway it's fun. I just started a smuggler last night. Very cool story. Though going from Sith inquisitor/warrior I have many bad habits to break, mainly the "get right up in their personal space" habit.

Since I was looking for some republic time now my Sith Legacy is put in place.
I made a Jedi Guardian on Nathema, named Saskia. Friend me if you like.
