It's available on Steam for prepurchase. If you prepurchase you get access to the beta. Decided to buy it after watching a bunch of youtube vids of the game.

In my opinion it's the best Space 4X game I've played since Master of Orion 2.

Because it's fun? :what:

It's turn based real time. Everything happens in real time, which can be sped up, but for production, research, etc every 5 seconds counts as a turn and after that 5 seconds production, research, etc are applied.

Each solar system can have multiple planets, just like what MOO2 had, which quite a lot of S4X games over the years seem to not do.

Ships come in many different classes with different decisions needed when you make them. Do you want to whack on extra armour or more weapons? More ammo storage or more powerplants?

Conquest is the only way to win? I don't know, I like to have...options.
If the unemployed learned to be better managers they would be visibly better off, and I fancy it would not be long before the dole was docked correspondingly.

There should be a diplomatic option to win. I'm not familiar with this game but many RTS games like this offer non-conquest paths to victory.

Reading the website I get the impression that a conquest victory is where your energies are supposed to be expended.

I've never found a 4x where diplomacy victories were really meaningful. Either it meant you found a basic flaw in the diplomacy AI and bribed your way to victory, or it was like MOO2 where a 'diplomacy victory' meant that you owned 66.1% of the galaxy and had the votes that way; essentially a domination victory. Or possibly a combination of the two.

You can win by convincing everyone else to join you in a Federation.

Space bears and space wolves? Nooooo.... At least use some of the more exotic animals as models for your aliens, if you lack the imagination to make them truly alien in appearance. The plant creatures and the owls hooked to wires from their backs and some others looked more interesting though.
Well that was awkward.

My bench mark here is Galactic Civilisations 2: Ultimate Edition. You have yer common or garden conquest victory, an Alliance victory (get everyone to ally with you) a Culture victory (control 75pc of the galaxy) a Tech victory (research a particular technology tree and become magic ghosts - no, seriously) and an Ascension victory (hoard magic crystals until you become magic ghosts).

I also have Civ. V - Conquest victory, Science victory (built a spaceship), Culture victory (advance culturally until you can complete something called the Utopia project), Diplomatic victory (build the UN and get everyone to vote for you).

I recently bought something something 2526, which was advertised as a 4x game. It's really pretty but the gameplay hasn't snagged me yet.
Do you know how the others compare to that?
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,

As opposed to playing it and then buying it? Demos aren't very common anymore.

I like 4x games. But I didn't enjoy Sins of a solar Empire.. It's more RTS then 4x.. I prefer the build civilisation side of those games more then "Massive war!"

I want make colonies and research and build giganto metropoli etc...
