Their user-side infrastructure is so barebones, I wouldn't be surprised if they just haven't made the time. I imagine their top priority is recruiting Steam users, so they still need to upgrade the interface... with "basic" features like native stream support, mod support, discussion boards, local backups, cloud saves (very limited at the moment), gifting, etc. Shock & awe spending on promos right now, little priority given to anything else - so I'm guessing MacOS & Linux support is low priority. It probably doesn't help that Epic's in a spat with Apple over Fortnite on the App store.
My Epic launcher sucks more generally. It's the only one (besides the Xbox app - lol) that takes several seconds (5-10?) to load from standby mode in the system tray, every time. Dumb.
