Bloodborne first few minutes; damn hairy! I'm fighting a mob who have me surrounded, so I've really got to nail switching targets fast. It's tough, the enemies are big fat meanies

If you have it, the Threaded Cane in whip form can be useful to keep a crowd at bay early on. Use the light attack at first. Until you learn to time it the heavy attack is best used against lone enemies you want to keep at a distance. Luring enemies away to thin out the mob before charging in works well.

Concentrate on taking out small groups of enemies, don't alert the whole mob by the bonfire or they will gangbang you pretty quickly.

I am at the beginning and chose the flick-saw instead, it looked like the popular weapon.
After climbing what I guess is the first ladder you end up following and killing a small gang, right after that you see a few zombies (or whatever) looking at a bonfire - there is a ledge above with another zombie watching the fun - I went to take out the ledge-dude, but got surrounded really fast. I died of course, but had no idea where they came from, I can only assume it was the bonfire guardians who must have been pretending to be dreaming, they were on me far too fast and I barely had two hits on ledge-dude.

Oh. I charged right in and attacked. I had the axe and blunderbuss and just went at it. Died the first few times, but once I got a knack for dodging lots of attacks, I felt confident. I like either sniping play styles or balls-deep play styles. None of this dancing around crap.

How the crap to kill the two werewolves! I'm getting murdered by them, and the trip to the bloodbath isn't easy. Fuck, this game is tough

Pro Tip. You don't have to, there is
[Reveal] Spoiler:
a short cut that takes you to the mid part of the bridge
. The path is to smash the boxes to the left of the area you reach directly after you leave the big bonfire area where you are attacked by the dogs. It leads you back to the lamp so you can bypass a whole chunk of the area once you've opened the gate, and the wolves.

Here's how to beat them.

Throw a stone at one of them. Hold your ground. When he goes to strike; shoot him in the face. Perform visceral attack.
By this time the second one should be upon you. Repeat steps above.
If done right the first one should be getting up as the second one goes down. Repeat the steps again and he's out. Just in time for the second to start regaining consciousness.

Or if you're a filthy causal -

Follow the above.

Before the area with those dogs there is a sprint past the dozen zombies, two giant crows, a fat bastard banging a door (who got bored and followed me quietly). The area with the dogs contains axe murderers and two snipers.
Mad!
PS what area with lamps? lol I need a map

What is going on for me right now: I get a tiny bit further in, die, start over.
But I gather I cannot level up, evening the odds, until I die at, or kill, Cleric Beast. Like I said, tough game. More fun than DS2 though

These are quite funny and quite close to the truth:

I would just start again.
Don't worry. Once you know what you're doing, you should just get back there in15-20 minutes.

I personally like.

And yep. I proudly buy that new Zelda game (the Mario games not so much since I don't like side scroller games) and that new Pokemon game even though the essential game is based off of the original game.

And you know what? It doesn't bother me. It is engaging, fun, and keeps me occupied for hours and THAT is what matters.

I can really tie all videos games back to pong, pac-man and snake and explain how no new video game is really original.

Trying to 100% the game. I'm a little late to the game. Grew up with NES and SNES, and have only recently gotten into post-PS1 stuff.

Good luck with that, I enjoyed a lot of things about that game but I thought the controls and camera were atrocious. Probably good by the standards of the day, but compared to the Galaxy games for example, it really doesn't hold up IMHO.

Have you unlocked the gate that takes you back to the spawn point? Do that before going up to the dark attic. It's through the door downstairs in that area, when outside go up the stairs, DO NOT GO DOWN to where the two Brick Brute are as they will probably murder you the first time you try and take both of them on. Once you get the trick of interrupting their attacks with the pistol they are really easy to take down and you can farm them for 2 blood vials each.
