My twins which came first didn't either. That was rough. When the youngest came along, not just was she a singleton but she slept through the night from her first night and every night thereafter. We realized how entirely different it would be had it been the other way round.

They are all grown up now though. It definitely does happen fast. My only advice is that kids do what you do. When you get mad at them, you are looking in a mirror. Telling them anything is only as good as your own ability to act that way. Also, it really does go fast. Be involved in their education.

The sleep thing...yeah, you will get tired but you will also discover reserves of patience and resilience that you never knew you had.
I remember getting up at 5 am for work after a fraught night. I'd probably slept about 3 or 4 hours in total in 40 minute increments . Howling a gale and pissing down outside, mid winter. Popped my head round the bedroom door before leaving and saw mum and little fella snuggled up warm and cosy. Got my coat on and set off into the dark feeling, 'Yep, this is what it means to have responsibilities. This is what it means to be a grown up.'
Off I went to earn money to support my family and felt good about the way my life was going...

I don't care about sleep. Never been really good at it. Besides, we decided to work in shifts, me and the lady. One day she'll be responsible, the other day I am. That way we both get to sleep...somewhat.

Here we go.. back in my day.. But yes my little wonder didn't sleep through the night for 12 months. When others told my sleepless self that their little one slept through the night from week 2 I used to internally scream " but that is because they are brain damaged like you.." I survived, she survived to adulthood and last time I saw her (2 weeks ago) we didn't sleep through the night but nailed quite a few bottles of wine almost resulting in me missing my plane.. kids eh?

Congrats mindhack!

My three were all good sleepers, except when they weren't. Each of them went through patches of a few weeks to a month of simply not sleeping more than about 30 minutes at a time. Just about the time when tossing them in the river we live on the banks of seemed like a good idea (kidding!) (sorta ), they'd go back to being good sleepers again.

For all the dumb shit they've put us through over the last decade and half, I don't regret a second of it.

Not sure how I missed this earlier, but it appears your little one is now a month old. No doubt you're pretty much a zombie right about now. Anyway, enjoy these days! They'll be over soon and you'll look back with astonishment and amazement at how that rambunctious little boy could have ever been this sweet little - and hopefully not too fussy - bundle of powdery-smelling new life.

There are never really any events in my neck of the woods, so it took me a while to see this thread. Congratulations, mindhack! This is wonderful news! It makes me very happy when I hear about rational skeptical people making copies of their genes.

You're half-way there! Now all you need to do is get the nurture right. Raise your sprog with a lot of science and teach them how to ask lots of questions and think critically. Or else.
